Glossary of SPS terms

| Asynchronous | Pre-recorded lessons/events/talks/teachings that students access remotely through the assigned platform |
| Cohort | A group or team of students and educators who comprise the same members and stay together throughout the school day |
| Google Classroom | An online tool used by teachers to create an online classroom, invite students to the class, then create and distribute assignments. Within the Google Classroom students and teachers can have conversations about the assignments and teachers can track the student's progress |
| Google Meet | An online platform used by teachers to give a lesson or schedule and conduct live meetings over video. |
| Home Schooling | Option where the student is unenrolled from Stamford Public Schools and parents accept full responsibility for the education of their child in accordance with the requirements of State law. (Not the same as Distance Learning DTLA) |
| Hotspot Device | Portable router that you use to set up internet anywhere |

| Pop Up Webinar | Online live and/or recorded (which can be accessed any time in the future) informational meetings (webinars) on current topics that are available or occur suddenly with short notice |
| PowerSchool Parent Portal | An online student information system used by the district that provides parents and students access to essential information including school schedules, class information, color assignment, bus assignments, grades, contact information. Parents can also access and complete forms and update contact information. |
| Tutorial / Videos | A method of teaching by example and providing the information to complete a certain task |
| Visitor | Any person entering a school building during normal school hours |
| Web Site | A location connected to the Internet that maintains one or more pages on the World Wide Web |
