Seal of Biliteracy

Dear Seniors,

The Seal of Biliteracy was created to provide immediate recognition of critical twenty-first century language and communication skills.  This award is given by the Stamford Public Schools in recognition of students who have studied and attained proficiency in English and another language by high school graduation.  The Seal of Biliteracy recognizes the value of students’ academic efforts, the tangible benefits of being bilingual and biliterate, and prepares students to be 21st century global citizens in a multicultural, multilingual world.  It also acknowledges that the mastery of two or more languages is a valuable asset for both individuals and their communities. The Seal is available in all languages.

All seniors have the opportunity to apply to take a test to determine their level of proficiency in a language other than English.

Please be mindful of the following key dates:

  • January 31- Feb 4  information will go out to all seniors via senior English classrooms, and will be sent to all seniors via gmail
  • February 16 applications are due (day before February break)
  • All students who choose to apply will receive a gmail from Dr. Lawson, Department Head of Language Learning, of from Ms. Herz at Westhill by March 15 confirming receipt of the application and inviting you to the Seal of Biliteracy Google Classroom
  • There will be an info session on Thursday, March 24 from 2:45- 3:45 on the Seal of Biliteracy process.
