The Garden Club is an after-school program that is open to 2nd and 3rd graders. In this program, students have the opportunity to plan, plot and cultivate a community garden; the students maintain a space across from the A-wing playground where they plant vegetables and herbs. Garden Club is an opportunity to connect the dots from farm to table, an exposure to a variety of healthy food, and a chance to play in the dirt!
4th & 5th grade Garden Club Alumni are encouraged to join us in the capacity of Mentors. As mentors, these students support 2nd & 3rd graders in garden activities. Mentorship is a great opportunity for students to: Collaborate, Support, Engage, Empower and Take Ownership.
Additionally, Garden Club maintains a partnership with Chartwells Food Services. Dieticians regularly visit our club to provide our gardeners with nutrition information and demonstrate recipes relating to our garden crops.
From September to May, meetings are held after school in separate fall and spring sessions, busses are provided. In the summer, the garden is maintained by volunteers who meet one evening a week; at this time the entire Newfield community is encouraged to participate!
