This program addresses the needs of students identified as an EL student. This program services both the Spanish speaking bilingual students as well as students meeting the new arrival criteria as outlined in the appendix of this manual. Once in the program, students will be seen by both a bilingual teacher as well as a TESOL teacher.

 

 

Middle School Bilingual Content Area Courses

All students in the transitional bilingual program receive the same curriculum that all students in Stamford Public Schools receive.  This curriculum may be delivered or supported in the native language of eligible students (Spanish).  The content area courses that are taught by bilingual certified teachers are Language Arts, Math, Social studies and Science.  Students also participate in electives.

The curriculum for bilingual health, bilingual math, bilingual science and bilingual social studies courses mirrors the course study in the regular education program with instruction delivered in the native language and English.  ESL support is provided through courses at three different levels: beginner, intermediate, and advanced.
