The Stamford Public Schools (SPS) has begun to implement its newly developed 5-year Strategic Plan.  In support of this initiative, Superintendent Earl Kim recently introduced the SPS vision and mission at the December Stamford Cradle-to-Career (C2C) annual convening.  The video, Stamford Public Schools: Mind, Body and Heart, was created for the district by Leigh and Jason Morfoot, SPS parents and filmmakers.  In the video, Superintendent Kim shares what he envisions the SPS district will become in the near future, while demonstrating current examples of teaching and learning in our classrooms.

The video highlights the importance of ongoing family and community engagement, while demonstrating how SPS is challenging, inspiring and preparing its students for success in the real world. As announced in late November, “the mission of SPS is to provide an education that cultivates productive habits of mind, body and heart in every student.” The districts’ vision is to “be a learning organization that continuously improves its effective, innovative and transformational teaching and learning.  SPS [we] will challenge, inspire and prepare all students to be productive contributing members of society.”

In addition to showing the vision and mission in action, the video emphasizes that SPS:

  • Provides every student with a rigorous and challenging education in a supportive and nurturing environment.
  • Offers students a learning experience rich in cultural diversity and reflective of the global society in which they will work and live.
  • Goes beyond teaching academics, but also values real-life skills, including cultural awareness and a collaborative approach to problem solving.
  • Is committed to growth and change in which all students, teachers, parents—and the community work together to prepare every student to be productive and contributing members of our community.

Note: Stamford C2Cis a United Way-funded and managed collaboration between SPS, the City administration, and more than 100 businesses, community and non-profit organizations.  The objective of C2C is to align and improve support and enrichment services for Stamford youth from pre-natal through post-graduation.
