Superintendent Stamford Public Schools (SPS) Earl Kim and the Stamford Board of Education (BOE) named Dr. Shawn Marinello Principal Northeast  Elementary School on Tuesday, June  26, 2018, at the regular BOE meeting,  effective July 1, 2018.

Marinello is replacing Northeast Principal Hubert Gordon, who announced he was moving out of the district to pursue another career opportunity earlier this year. Marinello has been Assistant Principal at Toquam for the past year and served as an administrative intern there for the three prior years.

“I am excited about this opportunity,” said Marinello. “I look forward to working with the great Northeast staff to help enrich the lives of our students by cultivating their minds, bodies and hearts.”

Prior to serving as administrative intern at Toquam, Marinello was a guidance counselor at Turn of River Middle School. He started his education career in Tampa, Fla., as a third grade teacher. He also held roles of afterschool director, magnet curriculum integration teacher and guidance counselor there. Marinello holds a B.S., Elementary Education, University of Tampa; an M.A., Educational Counseling, University of South Florida, Tampa; and an Ed.D., Educational Leadership, Urban Education, NOVA Southeastern University, Ft. Lauderdale.

“I am excited to see Shawn transition into the role of principal,” said Deputy Superintendent Dr. Tamu Lucero. “He has a clear understanding of the needs of and is prepared to continue the good work at Northeast.”

In late June SPS also named Matthew Moynihan, former administrative intern at the Academy of Information Technology & Engineering, as Assistant Principal Stamford High School and Kathleen Kelley as Assistant Principal Davenport Ridge Elementary School, where she had been serving as the interim assistant principal. Additionally, Christopher Passamano, formerly of Norwalk Public Schools, was named the Stamford High School Athletic Director and Richard Cerone as the Westhill High School Athletic Director.
