Stamford Public Schools (SPS) announced that Turn of River Middle School (TOR) students Rohan Sahu, Aarin Basu, Pranay Sen and Sakshem Behl recently won the State and Regional You Be The Chemist Challenge® competition. Sponsored by the Chemical Education Foundation, You Be The Chemist Challenge® is a collaborative, multilevel academic competition that celebrates the science of chemistry and elevates awareness of STEM careers.
The Connecticut competition was held in early March at Naugatuck Valley Community College. The TOR students competed against students from across the state to solve STEM-based questions collaboratively within a designated timeframe.
More than 36,000 students from 451 schools participated in the Challenge this year, with 70 Regional Challenge events taking place across the country. As the team with the highest score in the state, the TOR students earned an invitation to compete at the National CEF STEM Summit and National You Be The Chemist Challenge®. Although the national event was canceled, the team will receive a State Champion Plague to commemorate their accomplishment.
