Dear Staff and Families,
The Board of Representatives held their budget meeting last evening. Late last night, or rather early this morning, they officially voted not to make any additional cuts to the Board of Education budget.
The Board of Education will meet in a Special Board of Education (BOE) meeting tomorrow night, June 4, 2020 at 6:30 p.m., to determine next steps for reallocating the budget.
As a quick reminder, the BOE requested $301,539,924 for the 2020-2021 official budget request. The requested amount was reduced by the Board of Finance to $285,555,203, which was adjusted by $3,484,721 due to savings the district had in the areas of healthcare, fuel and other post-employment benefits (OPEB) savings. Therefore, the BOE must make a total final reduction of $12,500,000 to the 2020-2021 budget.
As difficult as this cut is for any of us to imagine, and four times higher than any cut in recent history, this is the reality of our situation. Our goal is to work together with the BOE to develop a plan to meet this challenge in as thoughtful, careful and a caring manner as possible on behalf of all Stamford Public School students.
