Special Education and Related Services

Stamford Public Schools provides a free, appropriate, public education (FAPE) and related services to children with identified disabilities, as required under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act (IDEA 2004) and Connecticut General Statutes. 

It is the goal of Stamford Public Schools to educate students with disabilities in the least restrictive environment based on the specific requirements in the student's individual education plan (IEP).

Parents with questions about services for students with disabilities should contact the Assistant Principal for Specialized Instruction at their child(ren)’s school. 

Assistant principals for specialized instruction

Assistant Principals for Special Education assist building administrators in the implementation of high-quality specialized instruction to support all students with disabilities (SWD). They are responsible for hiring and supervising all special education teachers, related services staff, and special education paraeducators at their school(s). As instructional leaders for special education, they support teachers in delivering appropriate instruction to SWDs and facilitate building-wide and individual professional development on special education topics. They also are responsible for maintaining compliance with all local, state, and federal special education requirements, and for supporting student transitions, IEP modifications, and case management. APs for Specialized Instruction report to their building principal(s) and to the Director of Special Education and Related Services.
