Lottery Dates & Deadlines

 

Per BOE policy, applications open on September 15, applications are due on January 15 at 4 pm, and the lottery drawing is on February 15 unless those dates fall on a Saturday, Sunday or school holiday, in which case they will move to the next business day.

The 2026-27 Lottery Dates and Deadlines are the Same for all 7 Magnet Schools.Lottery Opens: Monday, September 15, 2025

Applications Due: Thursday, January 15, 2026 at 4 pm

Lottery Drawing: Tuesday, February 17, 2026

Acceptances Due: Tuesday, March 10, 2026

The SPS Magnet School Lottery is a controlled lottery. Separate lists (educationally advantaged students and educationally disadvantaged students) are generated from the lottery applications to help balance the schools per BOE Policy. The lists are further divided into in-town and out-of-town for AITE, Rogers, and Strawberry Hill. The magnet schools with grades 6-8 maintain two lists (advantaged/disadvantaged) for each attendance zone middle school.  

Per BOE policy, following is the order for student selection (there is slight variation across interdistrict and intradistrict magnets):

  1. Students with siblings attending a magnet/zoned magnet school
  2. Students residing in the attendance area of a zoned magnet school (Hart, Toquam, Westover)
  3. Students whose parents are certified staff and work at the school (professional courtesy)
  4. Students residing in the preferred attendance area of a magnet school (Rogers and Strawberry Hill only)
  5. Students assigned to a school targeted for recruitment to a magnet school
  6. All other applicants
