The vision of the English Learners Department is to ensure that all English Learners and their families become active participants in school life, respecting their culture and diversity while providing research-based academic programs to assist English Learners become proficient in English and opening access to the wealth of opportunities in the Stamford Public Schools and beyond.  

The SPS Multilingual Learner Program supports students who speak a home language other than English and who are not yet proficient in English. 

Students are screened for English language proficiency using a standardized, statewide process. Those identified as Multilingual Learners have access to numerous district wide programs to develop their English language skills.
