U.S. Federal and Connecticut State Law mandate bilingual education for English learners. Bilingual education is defined as instruction in both English and the student’s native language with a continuously increasing use of English and the goal of reaching English proficiency. Stamford Public Schools identifies students as Multilingual Learners using a standardized, statewide process. When students are identified as Multilingual Learners, their families are offered several options for school-based multilingual learner programs to develop their English language acquisition.
