Accomodation: A change of teaching techniques, environment or materials. The child still learns the same content.

Annual Review 1: The first meeting in the three year cycle to take place with the PPT team to review gains and struggles the child is having.

Annual Review 2: The second meeting in a three year cycle to take place with the PPT team to review gains and struggles a child is having and plan for re-evaluation for the triennial review

Due Process: The legal process that you can formally use if you disagree with the school. Parents or guardians neet to have a written complaint to begin the process

FAPE: Free Appropriate Public Education - Children with disabilities have the right to free and appropriate public education.

FBA: Functional Behavioral Analysis - A process utilized in order to try and solve a child’s behavioral problems

IDEA: Individuals with Disabilities Education Act - The federal law that guarantees the right to Free Appropriate Public Education and Least Restrictive Environment.

IEE: Independent Educational Evaluation - Evaluation that is different than what has been given to a child by the school. Parents sometimes request an IEE if they do not agree with the school findings

IEP: Individualized Education Plan - A legally binding document for children who who qualifies for special education services.

LRE: Least Restrictive Environment - Students with disabilities are to be educated in the same setting as students without disabilities as much as possible.

Manifestation Determination: A meeting to determine if a change of placement is necessary because the child has violated a school code.

Modification: A change in the expectation of the child to learn and demonstrate based on their level of performance.

PLOP: Present Levels of Performance - The section of the IEP that explains your child’s academic skills and daily life skills.

PPT: Planning Placement Team - Guardians or parents and a team of personnel who work with your child in the public school.

Prior Written Notice: A formal letter the school sends to the parents or guardians that documents changes to special education, parent requests and refusals.

Triennial Review: The third meeting in a three year cycle to take place with the PPT team to review gains and struggles a child is having, review evaluations and determine continuing eligibility.
