The Stamford High Early College Studies Program began with a single cohort of 40 freshmen in fall 2017 and currently includes 150 students in grades 9-12. Designed to support students in cultivating future-ready skills for high school, college and the workforce while empowering them to pursue careers in computer science, the ECS Program enables academically-motivated students to simultaneously earn their high school diploma from Stamford High and an associate’s degree from CT State Norwalk in as few as four years.

The ECS Program has graduated 15 students with associate’s degrees since 2021, and more than 150 ECS students have graduated Stamford High with college credits toward their associate’s or bachelor’s degree in computer science-related fields. Students who begin the required CT State coursework as high school sophomores can earn an associate’s degree during high school. Students who begin their CT State coursework as high school juniors or seniors can accelerate the completion of an associate’s degree after high school.

Early College Studies at Stamford High School is a collaboration between Stamford Public Schools and CT State Norwalk. The program is based on the Pathways in Technology Early College High School (P-TECH) model, an innovative merging of high school and college curriculum.

Early College Studies is a rigorous, intra-district academic program open to all Stamford students regardless of their assigned (zoned) high school. Students may apply to the program beginning in fall of their eighth-grade year, and applications remain open until all available freshmen seats are filled.

The Stamford ECS Program is led by Director Adam Scianna, a former high school mathematics teacher. Mr. Scianna earned Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Civil Engineering from the University of Connecticut, and earned a Certificate of Advanced Study in Educational Administration and Supervision from the University of Bridgeport.
