Ortiz Named Interim Assistant Principal at Stamford High

Superintendent Dr. Tamu Lucero is pleased to announce that Jonathan Ortiz has been named Interim Assistant Principal at Stamford High School (SHS) for the 2025-26 school year.

This appointment marks a return to Stamford High for Ortiz, who served as a school counselor there from 2016 to 2024. During his previous tenure at Stamford High, Ortiz also was the Boys Soccer Coach from 2016 to 2023 and both the District’s 504 Team Leader and the SHS Advanced Placement Coordinator during the 2023-24 school year. He was the Multi-Tiered System of Support Specialist at Westhill High School during the 2024-25 school year and has been a head teacher in the SPS Summer School Program since 2023. 

“We are very excited to bring Jonny back to Stamford High as the Interim Assistant Principal,” said Associate Superintendent for High Schools, Dr. Lori Rhodes. “Jonny has done a terrific job as a school counselor, summer school lead teacher, and MTSS. His knowledge, experience, and student-centered approach will be an excellent addition to the Stamford High administrative team led by Mr. Forker.”

Ortiz will be the Grade 9 Administrator at Stamford High where he will be responsible for ensuring more than 500 students make a successful transition to high school. He will also oversee the Stamford High School RISE Program, school counseling, and the SHS Career Technical Education Program. 

A graduate of Westhill High School, Ortiz earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of Bridgeport, a Master of Arts in Bilingual School Counseling from New York University, and a Master of Education in Educational Leadership from American College of Education. He is certified in School Counseling (CT 068) and K-12 Intermediate Administration or Supervision (CT 092). 

Ortiz will begin his new role on August 8, 2025.
