Scott Clayton Appointed Assistant Superintendent, Secondary

The Stamford Board of Education voted on Tuesday evening, July 14, 2026, to approve the appointment of Scott Clayton as Assistant Superintendent for Secondary, effective immediately. 

In his new role, Clayton will supervise and evaluate principals, collaborate with the Teaching & Learning Department to implement best instructional practices, work with the Chief Financial Officer and the Superintendent to ensure equitable budgets and staffing at all school and program sites, and monitor and support efforts to ensure that all students are achieving high academic standards. 

“Scott brings a unique combination of instructional leadership, operational expertise, deep knowledge of Stamford Public Schools, and experience as a policy maker to this new role,” said Superintendent Dr. Adrian Talley. “Throughout his career, he has demonstrated a commitment to student achievement, continuous improvement, and collaboration. His success as a principal, combined with his recent work leading districtwide data and systems initiatives, has prepared him well for this role. I look forward to partnering with him as we work to strengthen our schools and ensure every student is prepared for post-secondary success.” 

Clayton has more than 20 years of experience in educational leadership, including 12 years as the Principal of Scofield Magnet Middle School (2012-2024). During his tenure, Scofield was recognized for its teaching practice and student achievement by both the New England League of Middle Schools (NELMS Spotlight School 2015, 2018, 2023) and the Connecticut Association of Schools (CAS Finalist “Middle School of the Year” 2023). 

In 2024, Clayton was named the district’s Director of Student Data and Systems, reporting to the Chief Academic Officer. In this role, he managed the District Data and BOE Technology Integration teams and was integral to the development and implementation of a new teacher evaluation system.

Prior to joining Scofield, Clayton was Assistant Principal at Newtown High School in Sandy Hook, CT where he also served as Dean of Students and was a social studies teacher. Clayton began his career as an eighth grade U.S. History teacher at Rippowam Middle School. 

Clayton earned a Bachelor of Arts in History from Western Connecticut State University, a Master of Science in Secondary Education from the University of Bridgeport, a Sixth-Year Certificate in Educational Administration/Leadership from Sacred Heart University, and Superintendent Certification from Central Connecticut State University. 

He is certified by the Connecticut State Department of Education as a Superintendent (CT 093), in  Intermediate Administration or Supervision (CT 092), and in Grades 4-12 History and Social Studies (CT 026). 

In addition to being a dedicated educator, Clayton served nearly eight years as an active member of the Connecticut Army National Guard, and he is a member of the Board of Education and current Board Chair in the Town of Bethel, CT.
