Closing and Delays

CLOSINGS, DELAYS and EARLY RELEASE

Families should be aware that inclement weather – especially during the winter months – may result in changes to the daily school schedule. School may be cancelled, delayed, or closed early due to the weather.

The Superintendent of Schools determines if school will be cancelled, delayed, or closed early.

Please refer to School Bell Times for the delayed opening and early dismissal schedule.

Decision Process and Timing:

When inclement weather is forecast, the Superintendent remains in contact with local meteorologists, the City of Stamford Operations and Public Safety Departments, representatives of First Student, and surrounding school districts. Several factors – including current weather and road conditions and projected forecasts – are considered.

Decisions about closings and delays are made by 5:15 a.m. Decisions about early dismissal are made by 9 am.

We appreciate your understanding when closures, delays or early dismissals must be declared when the forecast is uncertain. This is very often the case when inclement weather is forecast to begin during the school day. Predicting the weather is an inexact science. Our decisions are made to ensure the safety of our students and staff.
