Title IX remains a critical federal civil rights law that prohibits sex discrimination. It protects male and female students and employees in any educational entity that receives federal funds. The preamble to Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 states that:
- “No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.”
- Any student, academic or non-academic employee claiming to have been discriminated against on the basis of sex by the policies or practices of the Stamford Board of Education, or any of its employees or agents, should follow the Stamford Board of Education Policy 1312.1 - when filing a complaint. Title IX requires that each public school district, as well as state-approved nonpublic special education programs, have at least one person designated as the Title IX Coordinator, to coordinate compliance with the law. Below is the list of Title IX Coordinators for our district.
