English Learners
The vision of the English Learners Department is to ensure that all English Learners and their families become active participants in school life, respecting their culture and diversity while providing research-based academic programs to assist English Learners become proficient in English and opening access to the wealth of opportunities in the Stamford Public Schools and beyond.
The EL Department is responsible for identifying and supporting Kindergarten - 12th grade students who speak a home language other than English and who are not yet proficient in English.
Students are identified by the central office EL Department staff as English Learners using a standardized, statewide process. If students are identified as English Learners, or not yet proficient in English, families are offered several options of EL Programs to develop their English language acquisition.
