Weekly Message from the Superintendent

Superintendent's Weekly Message - January 19, 2024

Dear Staff and Families,

At the BOE Fiscal Committee meeting on Tuesday night, Chief Financial Officer Ryan Fealey presented the 2024-25 proposed operating budget.  During the presentation, we shared important information about the types of programs, services, and staff positions that could be eliminated if our City Boards do not approve the entire requested increase.

If you were unable to watch the meeting live on Tuesday night, please click here to view the recording. The complete budget book is available here.

Departmental budget presentations are scheduled for Wednesday, January 24 at 6:30 p.m. via zoom.

We also are hosting opportunities for staff, students, and families to ask questions and share feedback about the proposed budget.  The sessions will be via zoom on Tuesday, January 30 as follows:

  • Staff – 2:30 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.
  • Students – 5:00 p.m.
  • Families and Community – 6:00 p.m.

Staff, students, and families will have the opportunity to speak directly to members of the BOE about this proposed budget during the Public Budget Hearing on Thursday, February 1.

Thank you in advance for your support and willingness to be an active participant in the budget process this year.

Class Visit

I want to take a moment to thank Westhill Teacher Sheryl Berkley for inviting me to her classroom last week to participate in a lesson about budgets.  Ms. Berkley has done an amazing job engaging her students and teaching this topic in a way that is relevant and understandable for her students.
