Weekly Message from the Superintendent
Dear Staff and Families,
Please join me in recognizing and celebrating our school counselors next week during National School Counseling Week February 6-10. The work that our school counselors do daily to support and guide our students, families, and staff is often life changing. Thank you School Counselors!
SPEF Book Giveaway
A big thank you to our community partner, SPEF, for hosting a book giveaway at the Ferguson Library last Saturday, as a partnership with Senator Blumenthal and the Stamford State Delegation who assisted with securing federal funding to implement literacy initiatives in Stamford.
During the event, students picked out books for their home library, signed up for library cards, enjoyed snacks, visited our photo booth, created wintery crafts, and listened to guest readers including Mayor Simmons, Roxbury Principal Dr. Mark Bonasera, and me.
Mock Interviews
Thank you to AITE and PTSO for the invitation to the annual mock interviews. The event provides an opportunity for students in grades 9-12 to practice and improve their interview skills for college and career.
The two students that I interviewed blew me away. Their answers were thoughtful and succinct and worthy of consideration. Both of these students undoubtedly have bright futures.
A sincere thank you to everyone who helped organize or volunteered at this event. I also want to thank the students who had the courage, and wherewithal, to take advantage of this opportunity.
The Dali Quartet Concert
Last Thursday and Friday, SPS and Orchestra LUMOS (formerly the Stamford Symphony) hosted The Dali Quartet at Westhill High School. Second grade students from across the district attended this program, which was an interactive and engaging performance. I want to thank everyone involved in making this program a success, especially Springdale Elementary Music Teacher Becky Chuhta, who serves as the District’s Content Leader for Music.
SPEF Leadership in Literacy Award
Join me in celebrating Amy Beldotti, Associate Superintendent for Teaching and Learning, who was recently named the recipient of the SPEF Leadership in Literacy Award. The award recognizes individuals who serve the Stamford community and go above and beyond in their support of public education and specifically, children’s literacy. Congratulations Amy and thank you for all you do for Stamford Public Schools. The award will be presented at the annual Excellence in Education Awards on April 27, 2023. Safer Internet Day
Tuesday, February 7, 2023 is Safer Internet Day; a national event held annually that aims to raise awareness about online safety and security. Some of our school communities will be using this opportunity to connect with students and promote the responsible, respectful, critical and creative use of digital technologies. We encourage everyone in the SPS community to take some time on Tuesday to consider the importance of safer internet practices and digital citizenship.
SPS Hiring
We continue to hire for open current positions as well as anticipated openings for the 2023-2024 school year. If you, or someone you know, is interested in more SPS employment information, please contact our HR Department.
Stay Safe and Healthy!
