Weekly Message from the Superintendent

Superintendent's Weekly Message - February 24, 2023

Dear Staff and Families,

I hope everyone had a relaxing winter break. I want to take a moment to thank all of the staff members who led and participated in professional development sessions on Tuesday, February 21. The initial feedback to these sessions has been overwhelmingly positive.

Maintenance Worker Appreciation Day

Please join me in celebrating Maintenance Worker Appreciation Day, which is next Friday, March 3.  Our trades workers are dedicated professionals who help keep our buildings running smoothly.  They should be commended and recognized for their hard work and commitment to Stamford Public Schools.

Final Call for 2023-24 Scofield Middle School Lottery

The deadline to enter the Scofield Magnet Middle School Lottery for the 2023-24 school year is Wednesday, March 1, at 4:00 p.m.  Please click here for more information.

Free Lunches to be Counted via Registers

Beginning on Monday, March 13, students will be required to enter their student ID code at cafeteria registers when they get school breakfast and lunch.  All meals will continue to be provided FREE to all students.

Counting meals via the registers will enable us to provide a more accurate count of meals served to comply with state and federal program requirements.  Students will enter their student ID code using a pin pad or by swiping a barcode, depending on the school.

Integrated Math Information Session for Middle and High School

Stamford Public Schools (SPS) Teaching and Learning Department, in collaboration with the SPS K-12 Math Committee, and our middle and high school mathematics and science faculty, is recommending the adoption of Integrated Mathematics to teach the material currently presented in Algebra 1, Geometry and Algebra 2.  Click here to read more.

The transition to Integrated Mathematics will impact students entering grades 7, 8 and 9 in the Fall of 2023.  Associate Superintendent Amy Beldotti will host a Parent Pop-Up on Wednesday, March 1 at 7 p.m. to review this change with families.  Please join this information session via zoom.

Upcoming Events from Stamford Cradle to Career

Our community partner, Stamford Cradle to Career, is hosting two FREE community-wide events in March: a Teen Fair (Friday, March 10 at 4:30 p.m.) and a Parents & Caregivers Gathering (Tuesday, March 21 at 6 p.m.).  These events will feature games, raffles, food, community resources, learning from peers, and networking.  All are welcome to attend.  Learn more and register here

Finally, don’t forget to follow SPS on Facebook and check out our weekly SPS Shout Outs.  Each week we recognize school communities, staff members and students who have had a positive impact on our students or community.

Stay Safe and Healthy!
