Weekly Message from the Superintendent

Hello Staff and Families,

We are only a couple of days away from the start of the 2022-2023 school year.  As we noted in The Weekly last Friday (in case you missed it, please click here) school officially begins on Monday, August 29, 2022.  

New Teacher Orientation 

This week we hosted our New Teacher Orientation with nearly 200 new educators.  In my message to our new teachers, I encouraged them to “keep focused on WHY you decided to become teachers”.  Noting that “the WHY will get you through the good days, the bad days, and everything in-between.”

Master Staffing Plan

During the 2022-2023 school year, in collaboration with the SEA president, I will host a series of meetings with building staff, families, students, and community members to discuss staff needs in all of our buildings, departments, and programs.  The purpose is for us to agree on what staff is needed moving forward to effectively and efficiently operate Stamford Public Schools.  A few major questions that will be answered are class size, support staffing needs at elementary, middle, and high school, and what programs we want to offer.  Please stay tuned for more information and opportunities for you to join this important community conversation.

Cell Phone Policy

This week the BOE approved the new cell phone policy.  Thank you to our new SEA president who took the lead on shepherding this policy through our committee which included students, teachers, principals, community members, and parents.

Moving forward, the High schools and Middle schools will create committees to review the policy and regulations and determine how this will be implemented in each of their school communities.

Safe School Reopening Plan

Please click here to review the safe school reopening plan that provides health and safety measures in place and other pertinent  information for teachers, staff, and families.  Please contact your building administrator to answer and clarify any questions you may have.

SPS Website

Our new websites are up and running across the district, resulting in improved communications and increased awareness about activities and opportunities within our schools.  Each school now displays a customized calendar on their homepage, with district, BOE and school-specific events. 

In the upper right corner of any SPS calendar, click the gray RSS icon for a pop-up that will show a list of calendars to which you can subscribe.  Or click on the orange ALERT icon to sign-up to receive reminders via emails or SMS (text) messages to your phone.

Community members who do not have a PowerSchool account can subscribe to receive BOE or District announcements (including The Weekly) via email by completing the online form here or by clicking the “Subscribe” button at the bottom of the district or a school website.
