Weekly Message from the Superintendent
Dear SPS Families and Staff:
Parent-teacher conferences are next Wednesday, October 15, Thursday, October 16, and Friday, October 17. The district modified conference dates to better align with beginning of year iReady diagnostic testing for grades K-8 and the start of the fall semester for grades 9-12.
You should already have received instructions on how to schedule conferences from your child’s school principal or classroom teacher. Conferences may be conducted in person, via Google Meet, or by phone. If you require an interpreter for your conference, please contact your school’s parent facilitator or follow the instructions provided by your school. You may also bring a friend or family member with you to serve as the interpreter.
Please take advantage of this opportunity to meet individually with your child’s teacher(s) to discuss their transition to a new grade level, academic progress to date, and how you can collaborate with your child’s teacher(s) to support their academic growth.
School Construction Updates
Westhill: Construction of the new Westhill High School is scheduled to begin in June 2026. Due to the scope of this project, students, staff, and families will begin to experience some campus impacts early next year as the site is prepared for construction. The greatest impact to students during the current school year will be the closure of all student parking areas effective April 2026.
To help families understand what to expect as construction begins, the Westhill construction team will host a virtual meeting on Thursday, October 16, at 6:30 pm via Zoom (Meeting ID: 83721063127). During the meeting, the team will review the current project timeline and outline how each phase of construction will affect the Westhill campus.
Roxbury: On Wednesday evening, Roxbury school hosted an in-person community meeting during which the project team shared the proposed design of the new K-8 Roxbury School and the tentative construction timeline. If you missed it, there will be another meeting on Monday, November 10 at 7 pm via Google Meet (Meeting ID: qvf-htki-qng).
The City of Stamford has a website — SPSBuilds.com — with information about new school construction projects and capital projects in existing school facilities.
ICYMI: Watch the K-5 Progress Report Webinar
The Teaching and Learning (T&L) Department hosted a webinar earlier this week to review the new K-5 progress reports that will be shared with families during parent-teacher conferences. If you missed this session, click here to watch the webinar recording or review the slides here. Families can access K-5 progress reports in PowerSchool. Please note, you must access PowerSchool via the web portal to view progress reports. The reports are not accessible via the mobile app.
Accessing Your Child’s iReady Report
Beginning of the year (BOY) iReady diagnostic testing for students in grades K-8 concluded last week. iReady reports will be shared with parents during parent-teacher conferences.
Parents may also access their child’s iReady Report via Clever, which is a technology platform used by SPS to provide students and teachers with a single sign on (SSO) for all digital resources. To access Clever, you will need your child’s SPS gmail account login. Detailed instructions to access iReady Reports via Clever may be accessed here.
Your child’s teacher(s) will share more information about how the i-Ready assessments are used to support learning. You may also find the following general resources helpful:
- i-Ready Family Video (English / Spanish)
- i-Ready Family Guide (English / Spanish / Haitian Creole)
- Understanding Your Student’s i-Ready Diagnostic Result (English / Spanish / Haitian Creole)
PSAT for Grades 10 & 11 is Thursday, October 23
All SPS students in grades 10 and 11 will take the PSAT in school on Thursday, October 23. Students in grades 10 and 11 should arrive at school on time to ensure a prompt start to testing.
There will be a 4-hour delay for students in grades 9 and 12. Students in grades 9 and 12 should not report to school until 11:25 am. High school buses will make two runs on Thursday morning to accommodate both start times.
No School on Monday; Early Release Wednesday through Friday
Just a reminder that Stamford Public Schools will be closed on Monday in observance of Columbus Day. Schools will follow the early release schedule on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday for Parent-Teacher Conferences.
Stay Safe & Healthy!
