Weekly Message from the Superintendent
Dear Families and Staff,
On Wednesday night, members of the BOE Teaching & Learning Committee received an update on the elementary continuum for Students with Disabilities, including the new Bridge K Program and the Oakwood Collaborative School. The six Bridge K classrooms at Davenport, Julia A. Stark, K.T. Murphy, Northeast, and Roxbury support nearly 60 students with disabilities as they develop the skills necessary to succeed full-time in a general education elementary classroom. The Oakwood Collaborative School in partnership with Cooperative Educational Services is a self-contained program consisting of 6 classrooms for students in PreK-2. The Oakwood Collaborative School enables nearly 30 students with severe disabilities who otherwise may have required outplacement to remain in-district as part of the SPS community.
Thank you to K.T. Murphy Principal Jaimie Fisco and Oakwood Collaborative School Administrator Sharyl Cordone for sharing information about these important programs with the Board of Education.
