Dear SPS Community:

Last night, I had the privilege of joining Mayor Simmons and BOE Vice President Gabriella Koc for the SPS Adult & Continuing Education Graduation Ceremony at UCONN Stamford. More than 80 individuals were recognized for earning their high school diploma or completing the English as a Second Language Level 4 Program. Many of our Adult Education graduates also earned certification in disciplines including certified nursing assistant, information technology, plumbing, bookkeeping and more. Thank you to Angela Thomas-Graves, the Director of Adult & Continuing Education and our dedicated teachers and staff who helped this year’s graduates achieve this important milestone.

Westhill Meet the Coaches Night is June 2

Incoming freshmen athletes and athletes transferring to Westhill are encouraged to attend Meet the Coaches Night on Tuesday, June 2 from 6 to 7 pm.

Student athletes attending AITE whose attendance zone high school is Westhill should plan to attend the event on Tuesday night. Stamford High will host its event for incoming freshman athletes on June 9.

Congrats to Stamford High’s 51 International Baccalaureate Graduates!

On Tuesday night, 51 students from the Stamford High School Class of 2026 were honored for completing the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP). The IBDP is a globally recognized, externally assessed college-preparatory program offered at more than 3,500 schools in 155 countries, and Stamford High is one of only 11 high schools in Connecticut (public or private) to offer the program.

Stamford High was approved to offer IBDP in 2018 and the first group of 12 IBDP candidates graduated in 2020. This year’s IBDP graduates have committed to attend 35 different colleges and universities including Yale, Villanova, University of Wisconsin-Madison, University of Connecticut, University of California-Berkeley, Boston University, Virginia Tech, Northeastern, Middlebury, and more. Click here for more information or here to see a photo of the graduates on the SPS Facebook page.

Returning Borrowed Items to School

Please check around your home for any books, chromebooks, power cords, musical instruments, sports equipment, and other SPS property that must be returned to school. Items should be returned in good condition and in working order to avoid fees for lost or damaged items.

Lettuce Challenge Winners

Yesterday afternoon, I joined the Stamford Garden Club to honor the winners of the 13th Annual Lettuce Challenge. Students across the City of Stamford, with the support of their teachers and a few tips from the Stamford Garden Club, grew lettuce this spring in support of the District’s science curriculum.

Davenport Ridge second graders Ryan Vargas Franco and Izhaelle (Noe) Augustin were awarded Best in Show for their lettuce plants. Ryan’s teacher is Molly Magarian and Noe’s teacher is Natalie Uva-Betancourt.

Congratulations to Ryan, Noe, and all of the students from Davenport, Dolan, Rogers International, Springdale, and Westover who produced this year’s award-winning lettuce!

Class of 2026 College Plans

If you're on Instagram, please follow aiteclassof2026, stamfordhigh2026colleges, and whs26grads to learn more about the Stamford Public Schools Class of 2026. It’s wonderful to see the many colleges and universities our students will attend as well as the majors they plan to pursue.
