Weekly Message from the Superintendent
Dear SPS Community:
On Monday night, I had the opportunity to join the Stamford High Concert Band for its final rehearsal before the Spring Concert, which I was unable to attend due to a regularly-scheduled BOE meeting. The rehearsal was simply amazing, and I left so impressed by our talented student musicians. Thank you to SHS music teacher and band director, Adam Jackson, for the invitation!
My husband, John, and I also enjoyed an arts-filled weekend, including TOR’s amazing production of Roald Dahl’s Matilda The Musical Jr.; a visit to Teen Vision, Connecticut’s High School Art Exhibition hosted by Sacred Heart University; and moving performances by multiple SPS school marching bands during the annual Memorial Day Parade in downtown Stamford.
Thank you to all of the teachers and staff who support our students in these visual and performing arts programs!
Budget Update
The BOE voted to approve the reallocated FY26 Board of Education budget on Tuesday night. This is the final step in the FY26 budget process. I want to thank the Boards of Education, Finance, and Representatives for supporting our 16,000+ students and 2,500+ staff through the budget process.

Congrats to Stamford High’s Early College Studies Graduates!
Congratulations to the following Stamford High School (SHS) seniors who were awarded associate’s degrees from CT State Norwalk earlier this week through the Early College Studies (ECS) program at SHS: Joshua Arouni, Isabella Campos, Daniella Campos, Giselle Gutierrez, Theodore Lien, Justin Martinez, and Thomas Molyneaux.
Through the ECS Program, these students earned associate's degrees in computer science while also completing their high school graduation requirements at SHS. More than 150 students in grades 9-12 are enrolled in the ECS Program, which prepares students for careers in computer science-related fields. Read more here.
AITE Students Win PLTW Community Impact Award
I was honored to join BOE President Michael Hyman and AITE administrators, teachers, and staff yesterday as four students were presented with the Project Lead the Way (PLTW) Community Impact Award. This national award is presented to students who demonstrate how STEM learning through PLTW can be applied to projects that make an impact in their community. PLTW Executive Vice President and Chief Impact Officer, Katie Minihan, presented the award to AITE students Darlin Oliva Catalan, Camila Dos Santos Cunha, Penelope Shannon, and Sophia Moreno. These students were nominated by their teachers Danielle Weber and Paige Ridley. Read more here.
Summer Weekend Meals for Students
Registration is now open for the Filling in the Blanks (FITB) Summer Weekend Meal Bag Program! This program provides students with a shelf-stable weekend meal bag to take home from their school or camp program on Fridays during the summer. All interested families must register for this program, even if they already participate in the FITB weekend meals program during the school year.
As an added convenience for families, the SPS Welcome Center at Cloonan Middle School will be a pickup location for summer weekend meal bags. Click here for more information and to register.
No School Monday
Schools will be closed on Monday in observance of Memorial Day. I hope everyone will set aside some time on Monday to pay tribute to the members of the United States Armed Forces who gave their lives in service to our country.
Stay Safe and Healthy!
