Weekly Message from the Superintendent
Dear SPS Community:
On Tuesday night, the Board of Education voted to eliminate the 181st day of the 2025-26 school year. Barring any additional inclement weather closures, this change enables us to end the school year on Thursday, June 18 while remaining in compliance with the State of Connecticut requirement that public schools be in session in person for at least 180 days.
Should there be any additional closures, we will have no choice but to push the last day of school into the week of June 22. Juneteenth National Independence Day, which is on Friday, June 19, is a federal and state holiday, a holiday for the City of Stamford, and a paid holiday for several of our local unions.
The official last day of school, as well as the dates for high school graduation and the elementary and middle school moving up ceremonies, will be announced no later than Thursday, April 2. You can print or download updated district calendars here.
Changes to Quarter 3 and Quarter 4 for Middle & High Schools
Due to the four inclement weather days, the Teaching & Learning Department worked with the school principals and the Stamford Education Association to revise the dates for Quarter 3 and Quarter 4.
Quarter 3 will now conclude on Thursday, April 2. Quarter 4 will begin immediately following spring break on Monday, April 13.
BOE Budget to be Presented to City Boards on Monday, March 16
Chief Financial Officer Ryan Fealey and I will present the Board of Education’s proposed FY27 Operating Budget to a joint meeting of the Board of Finance and the Fiscal Committee of the Board of Representatives during a Special Meeting on Monday at 7 pm. - Attend the in-person only Joint BOF/BOR Public Budget Hearing on Wednesday, April 8 at 7 pm. We will share the location and instructions for signing up to speak when available.
Kindergarten Registration Event is Saturday, March 14
The SPS Welcome Center is hosting a Kindergarten Registration Event tomorrow from 10 am to 1 pm. Anyone who needs assistance registering their child for school is encouraged to attend. In-person support will be available in English, Spanish, and Haitian-Creole.
SAT School Day is Wednesday, March 18
Stamford’s SAT School Day is next Wednesday, March 18. High school juniors will report to school at the regular time to take the SAT. Students in grades 9, 10, and 12 will have a four-hour delayed opening. Buses will make two runs that morning to accommodate the split schedule.
SAT School Day is a partnership between the Connecticut State Department of Education and The College Board. The SAT is used as the State’s accountability assessment for all 11th-grade students.
Two Weeks Left to Complete the School Climate Survey
There’s still time for families to complete the 2026 School Climate Survey! The Climate Survey is open through Friday, March 27. Families may complete the survey in English, Spanish, Haitian Creole, or Ukrainian using any internet-connected device. All responses are completely anonymous. Families are encouraged to complete one survey for each child in Stamford Public Schools.
The 2026 Climate Survey for teachers, staff, and students launched earlier this week. Teachers, staff and students will be able to complete the survey in school through Friday, March 27.
Stay Safe and Healthy!
Dr. Tamu Lucero
Superintendent of Schools
