Dear SPS Community: 

The Board of Finance has released the FY26 budget presentation and meeting schedule. Please mark your calendars for the following meetings related to the BOE’s proposed 2025-26 operating budget: 

  • Thursday, March 6 at 7 pm: BOE Budget Presentation to members of BOF.  Watch via Zoom.
  • Wednesday April 2: BOF/BOR Fiscal Committee Hearing.  

The public may address the BOF and BOR regarding the BOE and City budgets during the hearing on April 2. We will share instructions for signing up to speak at the hearing when available.

Westhill Hosts MAC Percussion & Color Guard Competition  

The Westhill High School Instrumental Music Department is hosting Musical Arts Conference (MAC) Percussion and Color Guard Competitions tomorrow—Saturday, March 1—in the Westhill gymnasium. The percussion competition begins at 2:55 pm (awards at 4:45 pm) while the color guard competition begins at 5:55 pm (awards at 9:45 pm). The competition features percussion and color guard ensembles from throughout the area. Admission is $15 for adults and $8 for children 10 and under. Proceeds support the Westhill Instrumental Music Program. Click here for more information including performance schedule and participating schools.  

2025-26 Kindergarten Registration

Kindergarten registration for 2025-26 opens on Monday, March 3. Per state law, your child must be five years old on or before September 1, 2025 to begin kindergarten this year. You can complete the entire registration process online or attend a K Registration Event for assistance. Refer to the student registration section of our website for detailed instructions. 

Kindergarten Registration Event is March 8 

The Office of Family & Community Engagement is hosting a Kindergarten Registration Event on Saturday, March 8 from 10 am to 1 pm at the Welcome Center. Language support will be available for Spanish and Haitian-Creole speakers. Please attend if you need assistance with the registration process and be sure to bring the following documents with you: 

  1. Photo ID of parent or legal guardian 
  2. Child’s birth certificate or other official documentation proving child's age and name of parents
  3. Proof of address (2 forms)

National School Social Work Week 

March 2-8 is National School Social Work Week. This is a wonderful opportunity to recognize and thank the more than 50 social workers in Stamford Public Schools. These dedicated professionals assist with mental health and behavioral concerns, support positive classroom behavior, provide social-emotional support for academics, and offer individual and group counseling/therapy. Please join me in acknowledging our school social workers and thanking them for their work with students and families! 

Maintenance Worker Appreciation Day

Maintenance Worker Appreciation Day is Thursday, March 7. Thank you to everyone in the SPS Facilities and Maintenance Department for working hard year round to maintain more than 3 million square feet of building space and more than 300 acres of property. 

St. Patrick’s Day Parade

Join us for an early St. Patrick’s Day celebration and to cheer on the SPS musicians marching in the annual parade tomorrow—Saturday, March 1—at 2 pm in downtown Stamford. Click here for the parade route.  

School Climate Survey Opens March 10 

Get ready to share feedback about your child(ren)’s school(s) during the annual School Climate Survey, which opens on Monday, March 10. Information from the Climate Survey is used to make improvements in our schools. Look for an email with links to the survey on the evening of March 10.
