Dear SPS Families and Staff:

This week we welcomed more than 15,500 PreK-12 students into our schools for the start of the 2025-26 school year. In every school I visited, there was a sense of excitement and anticipation for the year ahead.  I want to thank our teachers, administrators, paraeducators, social workers and psychologists, special education service providers, custodial and maintenance staff, food service staff, bus drivers, office staff, parent facilitators, and nurses—for making these first few days a positive experience for our students.

Updated Bus Assignments Available September 1

The SPS Transportation Department is updating bus assignments and bus routes this weekend.  Please check PowerSchool on Monday, September 1 for any updates to your child’s bus number, bus stop location, or pickup time. This update will include bus assignments for eligible students who registered between August 13 and August 28 as well as any approved modifications to existing bus assignments. If there is an issue with your child’s bus assignment, please contact the transportation department at 203-977-4249 or SPSTransportation@Stamfordct.gov

SCOPES Meeting is September 10

The Stamford Coalition of Parents Expecting Success (SCOPES) is hosting its first meeting of the school year on Wednesday, September 10 at 6 pm at the SPS Welcome Center. SCOPES is a special education support network for parents sponsored by the Stamford Parent-Teacher Council and Stamford Cradle to Career in partnership with SPS. 2025-26 Magnet School Waitlists

If your child is on a magnet school waitlist for the current (2025-26) school year, those waitlists will remain active until December 1, 2025. If a spot opens up before December 1 for which your child qualifies, you will be contacted by a member of the central office staff. The individual schools do not manage the waitlist process.

2026-27 Magnet School Lottery Opens September 15

The 2026-27 Magnet School Lottery Application opens on Monday, September 15. We’ve streamlined the process this year so the application deadlines, lottery drawing dates, and acceptance deadlines are the same for all seven magnet schools. Click here for complete details.

Register Now for the SPEF 5K Walk & Run

Registration is open for the Stamford Public Education Foundation’s (SPEF) annual 5K Walk & Run. This year’s event is on Sunday, September 28 in Mill River Park.

SPEF supports Stamford Public School students through programs including the Summer Start Early Education Program for incoming kindergarten students and the Books Across Stamford initiative to support student literacy.

SPS students under the age of 18 can participate in the 5K for FREE, while the early bird race fee for adults is $30 through September 5. In addition to the 5K Walk & Run, kids under 12 can take part in SPEFy’s Fun Run, a shorter course with a few surprises along the way.

No School on Monday

All Stamford Public Schools are closed on Monday, September 1 in recognition of Labor Day. I hope you and your family enjoy the long weekend.
