Weekly Message from the Superintendent
Dear SPS Community:
Congratulations to Jaime Michaels, kindergarten teacher at Northeast Elementary School, who was announced as the winner of the Stamford Public Education Foundation’s (SPEF) 2026 Educator Award last night at the Excellence in Education Awards. Ms. Michaels was selected from among 20 outstanding SPS educators who were nominated by the Parent Teacher Organizations at their schools.
On behalf of everyone at Stamford Public Schools, I’d like to thank SPEF and the parent leaders at our schools for recognizing and celebrating these talented and dedicated educators.
Cinderella the Musical Opens this Weekend!
Stamford High School’s Strawberry Hill Players debut their spring musical, Cinderella, tonight at Rippowam Middle School. Nearly 60 students are participating in this production as cast members, crew members, and pit musicians.

The high-quality musical theatre productions at our high schools would not be possible without the support and dedication of the adults who lead, teach, and inspire our theatre students. Thank you to director Tommy DeSalvo, assistant director and production artist Stephen Emerick, pit conductor Adam Jackson, and faculty advisor and costumer Annie Dunn for making Cinderella a dream come true for our students!
Last Chance to See Seussical the Musical
This is the last weekend to see the Westhill High School Northstar Playmakers in Seussical. Get your tickets now for the final two performances, which are tonight at 7 pm and tomorrow at 2 pm. Tickets are $22.50 for adults and $17.30 for students and seniors. Purchase tickets online up to 3 hours before showtime (credit card) or purchase at the door (cash or Venmo).
Having attended last weekend’s performance, I can say the production is outstanding. The talent, energy, and professionalism of the student cast and crew are remarkable. Congratulations to everyone involved on an excellent show.
College & Career Fair is April 30 at Stamford High
The All-City College & Career Fair is next Thursday, April 30 from 6:30 to 8 pm in the Stamford High School gymnasium. This free event is open to all AITE, Stamford High, and Westhill High School students and families.
Representatives from more than 100 colleges, universities, trade programs, military branches, and community organizations will be available to share information and answer questions. Participating institutions include the University of Connecticut, several Connecticut State Colleges and Universities, and four-year colleges such as Vanderbilt University, Harvard College, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and Sacred Heart University, among many others. Attendees can also connect with Lincoln Technical Institute, Porter and Chester, the Stamford Fire Department, Excel Academy, branches of the military including the U.S. Marine Corps, and local organizations such as the Stamford NAACP and Stamford Dollars for Scholars.
This is a valuable opportunity for students to begin or continue planning for life after high school.
College & Career Fair attendees should enter Stamford High School via the back entrance near the tennis courts. Free parking is available in the three school parking lots and along Hillandale Avenue.
AITE Welcome Orientation Night is April 30
If your child will be entering AITE as a new student in grades 9, 10, or 11 this August, please join Principal Rivera on Thursday, April 30 from 6:00 to 7:30 PM for Welcome Orientation Night. The event will begin in the Cyber Cafe with a presentation from Ms. Rivera and current AITE students, followed by guided school tours led by Student Ambassadors.
School Lunch Hero Day
Next Friday, May 1, is School Lunch Hero Day, which is a time to recognize and say thank you to the hard working men and women who prepare and serve breakfast and lunch to thousands of SPS students every day.
Principal Appreciation Day
Next Friday, May 1, is Principal Appreciation Day! Please join me in thanking our school principals and assistant principals for their dedication and leadership throughout the year.
