Rippowam Middle School is one of five middle schools in Stamford. Rippowam is an authorized International Baccalaureate (IB) school and has approximately 800 students. Rippowam’s goal is to develop life-long learners who are knowledgeable, caring and responsible citizens. Students and teachers are encouraged to have mutual respect for one another.
Rippowam is a learning community that provides the highest standards in education through the emphasis of international-mindedness, intercultural respect and responsible citizenship. Balancing a safe and nurturing environment with academic rigor, the program seeks to create motivated, compassionate life-long learners. Their mission encourages students to be proud of their culture and be sensitive to the cultures of others.
There are three key concepts of the IB program used to plan the curriculum:
- Holistic Learning: Teachers work together to design interdisciplinary unit planning, leading students to see learning as interrelated.
- Intercultural: Students learn about their own culture and society as they learn about others.
- Community: Rules and regulations for students are shared with parents and the community. Rippowam supports inquiry, reflection and expression in multiple forms, and promotes community and global awareness.
The School Improvement Plan includes a commitment to rigorous instruction and sustained focus on implementing the IB program. Administrators provide staff development in the areas of teacher evaluation, intervention initiatives, and Instructional Data Teams
