Stamford's magnet schools offer educational choices to parents through innovative programs of theme-based instruction. While the programs at the magnet schools are described briefly here, more details on each program are available from the individual schools.
There are 13 elementary schools, five middle schools and three high schools in Stamford.
AITE, Hart, Toquam, Scofield Magnet Middle School, Westover, and the New School at 200 Strawberry Hill Avenue are local magnet schools and enroll students from all parts of Stamford by a lottery process.
Applications for AITE are due by Friday, January 27, 2017; the lottery will be drawn on Tuesday, February 14th. Applications for the elementary and middle magnet schools are due by Wednesday, March 1st; the lottery for the middle schools will be drawn on Monday, March 13th; the lottery for the elementary schools will be drawn on Tuesday, March 14th.
The New School at 200 Strawberry Hill Avenue opened in September 2016 and enrolled students in kindergarten and grade one, with one grade to be added each year. In 2017-18, the New School will include grades K-2. As an Inter-District Magnet School, the New School will invite students from Stamford and the surrounding towns.
Rogers International School is an Inter-District Environmental Magnet School and invites students from Stamford and the surrounding towns.
The other eight elementary schools enroll students based on residence.
There are also 5 middle schools in Stamford.
One of the middle schools - Scofield - is a magnet school. Scofield Magnet Middle enrolls students from all parts of Stamford by a lottery process.
