The Academy of Information Technology & Engineering (AITE) is an interdistrict, regional, magnet high school located in central Stamford. AITE has a student enrollment of approximately 700 students and draws students from the greater Fairfield County area. As a interdistrict magnet, some 30% of AITE students reside outside of Stamford. Admission is based on an application and lottery system. The school offers a dynamic college preparatory environment that integrates 21st century learning expectations, world language acquisition, emphasis on global competencies, advanced information technology skills, and introductory courses in pre-engineering, bio-medical sciences and architecture.
The technology and engineering focus is built around a core elective program of information technology and pre-engineering courses. More broadly, the emphasis on technology represents a strategy for preparing students to be life-long learners. All academic content courses are taught at the college preparatory, honors, or advanced placement levels. The learning environment includes extended time classes in a block schedule with a focus on student-centered, project-based learning. Courses are taught in an alternate day block schedule of four, 88-minute periods each day. AITE students are eligible to take credit-earning courses in conjunction with Norwalk Community College, the University of New Haven, UCONN, and through the Virtual High School program.
AITE is associated with Project Lead The Way (PLTW) and offers elective courses in pre-engineering and bio-medical sciences. These classes are college credit bearing courses. Additionally, all students are encouraged to complete community service hours each year, and seniors are encouraged to complete a Senior Capstone Project.
